How to Wash Your Face Correctly

Washing your face may seem like an easy task, something you can do with little to no thought, but in fact a little more care and consideration can go a long way. Washing your face the right way sets your skin up for success. Here's some tips that will help you get the most out of your daily skincare routine!

1. Wash Your Face in the Morning & Night

While there is such a thing as overusing products, we do recommend washing your face in the AM and PM. Washing your face in the morning ensures that you get the most out of your day-time products. Washing your face at night removes all the dirt and gunk that gathers throughout the day and can cause skin irritation, inflammation, and acne breakouts.

2. Start with Warm Water, Finish with Cool Water

Applying hot water to your face opens the skin pores. To close pores naturally simply follow with cold water. When your pores are closed dirt and other toxins are less likely to enter your skin layers. Cold water is also a great way to firm your skin naturally. Remember to splash cold water to your face after you wash your face or you bath to keep your skin looking youthful.

3. Massage Your Product in an Upwards Motion

We recommend massaging your skin for at least 60 seconds. The key is to be gently with your skin, it is better to massage for longer and softer than shorter and harder. Doing so will stimulate the lymphatic system, which encourages oxygen and blood circulation. Also we can't emphasize this enough: be sure to move in upward motions – pulling down on your skin adds to the nemesis of gravity and can lead to sagging.

4. The Amount of Product Matters

While many people think you should base the type of product you use off your skin type, we believe it is less about the actual product and more about the amount of product. For example if you tend to have dry skin use more of your moisturizer and if you tend to have oily skin use less. Often times we use too much product, with our products the potency is strong and thus your overall product can last longer than you think. Who doesn't love to spend less money and get the same affect?!

5. Pat, Don't Rub

The skin on your face is delicate; treat it like such by gently patting it dry with a soft towel after rinsing off your cleanser. Make sure you’re using a fresh, clean towel. Avoid using your shower towel, as you don't want to spread the bacteria from your body to your face (different microorganisms live in different areas of your body).

How many of these tips do you already follow? What have you found successful that we should try?
